Intro: The 2009 Château Trotanoy is a standout vintage from the renowned Right Bank estate perched in the heart of the Pomerol appellation in Bordeaux. The wine is opulent and richly textured, showcasing Trotanoy’s hallmark combination of dense fruit, minerality and refined structure. Critics have described it as “one of the most prodigious wines” of the vintage. The name “Trotanoy” comes from the old French phrase “trop anouyé” (too annoying) referring to the difficulty of working the estate’s heavy clay-gravel soils. The 2009 vintage marked the debut of the estate’s second wine, L’Espérance de Trotanoy (500 cases produced) from 100% Merlot parcels.

Region: Bordeaux || Winery: Château Trotanoy

Grapes: 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc

Aging: The wine is matured in oak barrels (a significant proportion in new oak) for around 18 months

ABV: 14.5% || Decant: 2-3 hours || Serving Temp: 15.5°C

Pairing: Roast or grilled red meats: beef rib-eye, lamb, venison, game; duck breast (especially with a berry or cherry reduction) one noted pairing; dishes with earthy components: mushrooms, truffles, rich sauces; aged cheeses, perhaps in the late course of a meal

Tasting Notes: The 2009 Trotanoy Pomerol shows a deep purple-ruby color. The bouquet unfolds with blackcurrant, black cherry jam, plum liqueur, truffle, graphite, and earthy forest notes. Full-bodied and plush yet structured, it offers silky tannins and a dense core of ripe red and black fruit. The finish is exceptionally long and layered with spice, dark chocolate, licorice, mocha, and subtle florals. Powerful yet elegant, this wine combines depth and finesse, with outstanding ageing potential of 20–30 years or more
