Scharzhof Riesling 2021
Intro: The Scharzhof 2021 from Egon Müller is a stunning entry level expression from one of Germany’s most acclaimed estates. It captures the cool climate clarity of the Saar/Mosel region, delivering intense minerality, ripe orchard fruit and a razor sharp acidity. Although labelled simply “Scharzhof,” the wine draws on holdings from prime sites including the legendary Scharzhofberg. Egon Müller works exclusively with 100% Riesling; no other grape varieties. The estate owns parcels on some of the steepest slopes in the Saar, with grey Devonian slate soils that give the wine its signature mineral intensity.

Pairing: Lobster or large sea scallops with beurre blanc or truffle butter; turbot or fine white fish in an almond/parsley sauce
Tasting Notes: The 2021 Scharzhof Riesling, Egon Müller, shows a pale straw colour with green reflections. The nose is fresh and refined, offering aromas of green apple skin, white peach, spring blossom, wet slate, mint, and subtle herbal notes. On the palate, it is bright and precise, with taut acidity, crisp fruit (green pear, lime zest), and a strong slate driven minerality. A touch of delicate sweetness rounds the profile, leading to a long, clean finish with saline and rock dust nuances. The finish is very long and fine boned. A wine that will age gracefully yet already delivers great pleasure
