Intro: The 2018 Saint Pierre bursts from the glass with a glorious perfume of kirsch, blackcurrant pastilles, black raspberries and cedar chest with hints of red roses, pencil shavings and spice box. The medium to full bodied palate coats the mouth with velvety tannins and beautifully knit freshness, supporting the generous black and red berry layers, finishing long and perfumed. It needs a good four years for the oak to marry and the fruit to really hit its stride, then should drink a further 20+ years.

Region: Bordeaux || Winery: Château Saint Pierre

Grapes: 77% Cabernet Sauvignon and 23% Merlot

Aging: Aged around 14 months in French oak, with roughly 50% new oak and the rest second fill barrels

ABV: 14.5% || Decant: 1-2 hours || Serving Temp: 16-18°C

Pairing: Beef (steak, ribeye), lamb (rack, roast); venison, duck, or dishes with a richer, earthy profile; beef bourguignon, boeuf à la bordelaise, lamb shank

Tasting Notes: The 2018 Saint Julien shows a deep garnet purple hue with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, and black cherry, accented by cedar, graphite, and spice. Full bodied and concentrated, it offers a rich dark fruit core with mineral and smoky undertones, finishing long and refined with lingering fruit and spice notes

Rating (Complexity & Vintage Year): 92 AA
