Gazin - Pomerol 2017
Intro: The 2017 Château Gazin emerges with a deep garnet purple hue and an intense core. Aromas of plums, dark cherries and mulberries are layered with spices such as cinnamon and star anise, touches of chocolate, floral hints of lilac, and a subtle undercurrent of truffle and earth. On the palate it’s rich and voluptuous, with plush dark fruit, smoothly integrated oak, polished tannins, and balanced acidity maintaining freshness. The finish is long and fresh, with a minerally/chalky grip; elegant yet expressive. The Château Gazin vineyard lies adjacent to some of Pomerol’s most famous estates (e.g., near Pétrus), and its terroir of blue green clay (including iron oxide rich “crasse de fer”) under gravel/residual soils contributes to its distinctive minerality and depth.
