Intro: Clos des Goisses was the first clos and terroir to be vinified and blended separately. It is unique and instantly recognizable for its dramatic 45° slope, the steepest in Champagne. Its name, ‘Goisses,’ comes from the local dialect, meaning a very steep slope.

Region: Champagne || Winery: Philipponnat

Grapes: Pinot Noir 71% and Chardonnay 29%

Aging: Lees aged for 8 years in the bottle (“prise de mousse”) at a constant 12°C in the historic cellars. Low dosage of 4.25 g/L emphasizes the terroir’s minerality and vinosity.

ABV: 12.5% || Decant: 10–15 minutes || Serving Temp: 10–12°C

Pairing: Strong flavored dishes, fish, lobster, and soft cheeses after a few years.

Tasting Notes: The 2014 Clos des Goisses Extra Brut displays a radiant golden hue with a fine, persistent ring of bubbles. The nose opens fresh and expressive, revealing yellow fruit, mirabelle plum, and greengage, followed by delicate floral hints of vine and acacia blossom as it breathes. On the palate, it is fruit-driven and intense, with an enveloping texture layered with fresh fruit, honey, and linden. The finish is marked by roasted nuances, taut minerality, and a touch of pleasant salinity.

Rating (Complexity & Vintage Year): 94 BB
