Cabernet Merlot 2019
Intro: This 2019 Cabernet Merlot from Soumah Wines (Yarra Valley, Victoria) is a refined blend that captures both Cabernet’s structure and Merlot’s softness. It’s built with a European sensibility; elegant, balanced and saline; and reflects Soumah’s minimalist, terroir driven style. The blend for this vintage (per Five Vino) is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon / 50% Merlot. Soumah takes inspiration from northern Italian winemaking. Their “d’Soumah” label (used for this wine) alludes to that approach. Despite being Australian, this wine leans toward restrained, savory styles: blackcurrant and cedar notes are common, thanks to the cool Yarra Valley terroir.

Tasting Notes: The 2019 Soumah Cabernet Merlot shows a deep ruby colour with aromas of blackcurrant, dark plum, cedar, black olive, and a hint of mint. Medium bodied on the palate, it presents blackcurrant and dark plum fruit, supported by fine tannins and a savory backbone of tobacco, cedar, and subtle minerality. The finish is smooth and lingering, with a soft, slightly saline note reflecting its Yarra Valley origin
