Intro: The 2012 Chambertin Grand Cru from Domaine Trapet is described as an exceptionally refined and balanced expression of the legendary Chambertin terroir. The Chambertin parcel owned by the domaine is about 1.9 hectares across three parcels. The domaine has been a pioneer in biodynamic viticulture, converting in the 1990s and farming the vineyards certified Biodyvin and Demeter. The 2012 vintage had extremely low yield for this wine: around 26 hectolitres per hectare.

Region: Burgundy || Winery: Domaine Trapet Père et Fils

Grapes: 100% Pinot Noir

Aging: Aged in the estate’s cellar in Gevrey Chambertin for approximately 15–18 months in French oak barrels (with 75% new oak) based on the domaine’s Grand Cru élevage practice

ABV: 13.5% || Decant: 1 hour || Serving Temp: 16-18°C

Pairing: Roast venison or saddle of game with a dark berry reduction; mature beef fillet with wild mushrooms and truffle accents

Tasting Notes: The 2012 Chambertin Grand Cru, Trapet Père et Fils shows a medium deep ruby hue with aromas of wild red and black cherries, plum, coffee bean, wood smoke, thyme, and crushed stone. Full bodied yet refined, with a sappy fruit core, supple tannins, and remarkable minerality. Focused, balanced, and energetic, with a seamless, exceptionally long finish. Still youthful, with immense ageing potential and promise of greatness

Rating (Complexity & Vintage Year): 95 AA
